What It Was Like Guest Star On One of My Favorite Shows… S.W.A.T. on CBS

Hi all! Ronni Hawk in the house. If you haven’t watched CBS’s S.W.A.T., it’s amazing! Lots of drama and action! And that’s why when I had the chance to guest-star on the show, I was definitely on board.

Every audition is different, but I’ll give you the deets on this one. A few days before the audition they gave me three scenes to memorize. I would be playing a social media star with a dangerous stalker. I don’t get nervous for auditions but a minute before I walk in, I do think, “I hope I have my stuff together!” It’s just a second of nerves and then I’m fine.

The whole audition took about 30 to 40 minutes. I read for the part with a casting director. Sometimes it’s hard to know how the audition went because you generally get no feedback afterwards. But I got a call the next morning that they wanted me to come back and audition again – this time with a couple writers and producers. So that’s usually a very good sign! I did the same scenes again.

Then the waiting! At this point, I put the whole thing out of my head and focused on other projects. I can’t deal with that post-audition anxiety! About three or four days later, I got a call from my manager who told me I got the role and when I needed to be on set.

It takes about a week or two to film a guest spot. First, it’s a lot of prep. You do table reads and they figure out wardrobe and makeup for your character. Then they start shooting. How many times you have to shoot a scene can depend a lot of things… camera angles, how many extras are on set, if everyone is ready to go, that sort of thing. Usually it takes about an hour and a half. Although I did once have a scene that took more than 7 hours to shoot!

I loved being on S.W.A.T. Everyone was great, really welcoming and fun to work with.

When you’re a regular on a show… like Stuck in the Middle and On My Block, you are with people for 20 hours straight sometimes! I love working with the same people each day because you really bond, but it’s also fun to mix it up with a guest-star spot and experience new people.

I’ve got some other super cool TV and movie projects coming up that I can’t wait to tell you about, but I haven’t been given the green light yet to chat about them. But I promise, you’ll be the first to know.

Be chill.
